I’m Lucy, a freelance food editor, writer and stylist based in London.

I’m also a home-cook, food lover, proud omnivore and a huge fan of — in no particular order — aubergines, coffee, cheese and pan con tomate.

Food shapes my days, weeks, months and years; it inspires where I travel, what I do and who with. For me, the happiest memories involve sharing food with friends and family. And it’s why I love to do what I do; write mouth-watering recipes for people to recreate at home.

So how would I describe my approach? My recipes are always fad-free, easy-to-follow and thoroughly tested, they are often nourishing, healthy, mindful and seasonal. They are sometimes indulgent, naughty and frivolous but they are never half-hearted; I’m my biggest critic and put my all into my work.

My career in food began just over 12 years ago after completing a diploma at Ashburton Cookery School in Devon. I started out learning the culinary ropes in the magazine test kitchen at Seven Publishing, and then behind the scenes of  TV cookery series such as Saturday Kitchen and Nigel Slater’s A Taste of My Life. Cooking Marcus Waring’s lobster bisque and Michel Roux’s cheese soufflé for live TV remain fond memories from my days as a knowledge-hungry assistant.

I went on to be a freelance writer and food stylist, working with various food and lifestyle titles, such as delicious, Woman and Home, Essentials and BBC Good Food. Over the past 8 years I’ve worked as a Food Editor on a number of magazines, most recently at Sainsbury’s Magazine (2012-2015) and at Good Housekeeping (2017-2018) as Acting Food Director. During this time, I’ve written hundreds of fool-proof recipes, honed my editing and styling skills and become practiced at meeting challenging briefs. In 2016 I had the opportunity to write my first book, The Goodness of Avocado (Photography Clare Winfield, published by Kyle Books)

Now freelance, I’m able to offer an all-encompassing approach to producing innovative and inspiring content for a whole range of brands  – from feature ideas, recipe development and copy editing right through to visual concepts, briefing shoots and food styling for photography.

Recent clients include Sainsbury’s Magazine, Tesco Real Food, Co-op Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Harper Collins & Kyle Books amongst others.
